Book Summary:

I am a poet who likes to write about the day to day aspects of modern life. The frustrations that happen to people and make them think why? And laugh about. I like to write about the fun things that my young children get up to and the innocence in there play. On a more serious note, I write about the events that happen in the world (Amy Winehouse, 9/11, Whitney Houston) and try to give the respect that is due to the occasion. My main purpose is to entertain and try to make people smile when they read my work. I hope that different people from all walks of life will find something that they can relate to in my book and enjoy reading. Kevin Crookes

Book Summary:

Marrow Me is written with stark beauty and unflinching candor, filled with equal parts grace and horror as a writer at the height of his powers — even while pharmaceutically challenged — shines a light on this increasingly common human condition. Multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood’s plasma cells, afflicted 488,200 people during 2015 alone; who among us has not been touched in some way by cancer? The course of the disease is brutal, but what sets this memoir apart is Roberts’ ability to slice through the brutality with humor and self-effacement, leaving us with an illness memoir utterly devoid of self-pity that evokes both the 1922 silent film Nosferatu and, at the same time, the humor of The Simpsons. Multiple myeloma’s survival rate is sufficiently low that a diagnosis is typically considered a death sentence. Because Joshua managed to live for twelve years post-diagnosis, he liked to say that for him, it was more like a death paragraph. This book will educate and touch anyone affected by cancer, from physicians to survivors to family members.

PENTACLE collects the classic tales of an unnamed Necromancer and his demonic familiar "Self" as they wander the spectral highways of America incurring the wrath of both heaven and hell. Praise for PENTACLE: "I was delighted with the assurance of his prose and imagery. This is an odd, unclassifiable and quite enjoyable short book." --Science Fiction Chronicle "This is whiplash fiction that takes dangerous curves at 150 m.p.h." --Deathrealm

Book Summary:

Carlos Frías, an award-winning journalist and the American-born son of Cuban exiles, grew up hearing about his parents' homeland only in parables. Their Cuba, the one they left behind four decades ago, was ethereal. It existed, for him, only in their anecdotes, and in the family that remained in Cuba -- merely ghosts on the other end of a telephone. Until Fidel Castro fell ill. Sent to Cuba by his newspaper as the country began closing to foreign journalists in August 2006, Frías begins the secret journey of a lifetime -- twelve days in the land of his parents. That experience led to this evocative, spectacular, and unforgettable memoir. Take Me With You is written through the unique eyes of a first-generation Cuban-American seeing the forbidden country of his ancestry for the first time. Take Me With You provides a fresh view of Cuba, devoid of overt political commentary, focusing instead on the gritty, tangible lives of the people living in Castro's Cuba. Frías takes in the island nation of today and attempts to reconstruct what the past was like for his parents, retracing their footsteps, searching for his roots, and discovering his history. The book creates lasting and unexpected ripples within his family on both sides of the Florida Straits -- and on the author himself.

In 1605, in Cambridge England, a group of scholars brought together to create a definitive English translation of the Bible finds one of its members savagely murdered by unknown hands. Deacon Marbury, the man in charge of this group, seeks outside help to find the murderer, to protect the innocents and their work. But the people who offer to help are not who they claim to be and the man they send to Marbury—Brother Timon—has a secret past, much blood on his hands, and is an agent for those forces that wish to halt the translation itself. But as the hidden killer continues his gruesome work, the body count among the scholars continues to rise. Brother Timon is torn between his loyalties and believes an even greater crisis looms as ancient and alarming secrets are revealed—secrets dating back to the earliest days of Christianity that threaten the most basic of its closely held beliefs.

Book Summary:

A religious, well-educated Victorian, Curwen takes us into the heart of the colonial society he encountered. He reveals the pervasive sectarianism, the tawdry political world of St John's, the rudimentary conditions aboard the fishing schooners, and the poverty of the Labrador "livyers," the permanent white settlers who had intermarried with the Inuit. He provides fresh details of the lives of the Moravian Brethren, the first missionaries to the Native population, and comments on the wildlife, the natural environment, and the general disposition of the countryside. Curwen's candid remarks about Grenfell reveal facets of the young missionary and social reformer not found elsewhere. The introduction and annotations by Ronald Rompkey, Grenfell's biographer, establish the historical, political, and social contexts of the journal. Rompkey has supplemented Curwen's private account with official letters and reports from Grenfell and other members of the expedition as well as numerous photographs taken by both Curwen and Grenfell to publicize their work.

Book Summary:

Sarah's a whiz at tuning engines and winning races. Winning Craig, the local drag race hero, proves more difficult. He only has eyes for gorgeous women who are hot in the sack, not grubby tomboys. Sarah’s world gets an overhaul when her father hires Gordon. Soon she’s torn not only between two men she wants, but between the drag race winner she is and the woman she feels pressured to become. Reviews Sarah Matell isn't a run-of-the-mill romance heroine. She works as a technician in her father's California automotive speed shop, dresses and acts like a guy, and lives for drag racing. Anything female, from makeup to chick flicks, is an anathema to her. Sarah's one concession is her years-long crush on a fellow race-car driver, Craig Keller. Although they are only good friends, she fantasizes that one day she'll outrace him and he'll magically look at her as the love of his life. Meanwhile, Sarah is the apple of her father's eye, but things change when he hires Gordon Devine. Gordon has big plans, and he and Sarah do not get along. Despite the friction, Gordon asks Sarah to drive a prototype he's developed. She'll do anything to win, and soon everything begins to spiral out of control. Impulsive and spoiled, Sarah is both enjoyable and annoying, and readers will sympathize with Gordon in this atypical, up-to-the-minute contemporary romance. -- Maria Hatton -- Booklist Review, October 1, 2007 "When I got to the end of Thrill of the Chase, I wanted more. I wasn't ready to let go of Sarah and her world." - The Book Vixen "There is some great racing action and great character-development on the part of the three main characters. It was really a joy to watch develop." - Crystal, My Reading Room "Thrill of the Chase is a high octane ride that will throw you for a loop." - J. Thomas, The Long and the Short Of It Reviews "Let me tell you now that the fun is in the Thrill of the Chase." - Lil, Love Romances and More

Book Summary:

Loyalty to the Brotherhood comes before all. Including women. Formidable Viking leader Rurik knows the law. His loyalty to the Forgotten Sons is his bond, and no woman will threaten what he’s built from the ground up. But the Sons are a roving band of Vikings, and Rurik is growing restless—so when Normandy’s chieftain offers land, the proposal intrigues him. And the sultry Parisian thrall he finds in his tent intrigues him even more… Safira is cunning and clever and full of secrets. Rurik’s men have no interest in securing her safe passage home, but, piqued with lust, Rurik views Safira’s wiles as a captivating challenge—one he’s determined to conquer, even if lying with her is as defiant as it is inevitable. Traveling with Safira has been a fantasy come true—what started as lust is quickly turning to the kind of partnership Rurik could never have dreamed. But their arrival in foreign lands marks a new chapter, one that demands a Viking wife. With impossible decisions to be made, Rurik’s alliances are fraying, and past promises may not be enough to save him from having to betray those he’s sworn loyalty to—including Safira.
