Book Summary:

In this tender-hearted debut, set against the tumultuous backdrop of life in 1973, when homosexuality is still considered a mental illness, two boys defy all the odds and fall in love. The year is 1973. The Watergate hearings are in full swing. The Vietnam War is still raging. And homosexuality is still officially considered a mental illness. In the midst of these trying times is sixteen-year-old Jonathan Collins, a bullied, anxious, asthmatic kid, who aside from an alcoholic father and his sympathetic neighbor and friend Starla, is completely alone. To cope, Jonathan escapes to the safe haven of his imagination, where his hero David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and dead relatives, including his mother, guide him through the rough terrain of his life. In his alternate reality, Jonathan can be anything: a superhero, an astronaut, Ziggy Stardust, himself, or completely "normal" and not a boy who likes other boys. When he completes his treatments, he will be normal--at least he hopes. But before that can happen, Web stumbles into his life. Web is everything Jonathan wishes he could be: fearless, fearsome and, most importantly, not ashamed of being gay. Jonathan doesn't want to like brooding Web, who has secrets all his own. Jonathan wants nothing more than to be "fixed" once and for all. But he's drawn to Web anyway. Web is the first person in the real world to see Jonathan completely and think he's perfect. Web is a kind of escape Jonathan has never known. For the first time in his life, he may finally feel free enough to love and accept himself as he is. A poignant coming-of-age tale, Ziggy, Stardust and Me heralds the arrival of a stunning and important new voice in YA.

Book Summary:

The Symposium on Shallow Lakes, held from 23rd-30th, September 1979, at the Biological Research Station, IlImitz (Austria), was intended to give an insight into current European research on shallow lakes. The reason for the restriction to European participants was firstly to gather as much information as possible on investigations in one geographic area, and secondly the limited time and space available. Since shallow lakes pose a number of problems specifically related to their depth, several symposia have been devoted to this subject. Meetings like the Symposium on the Limnology of Shallow Waters in Tihany (Hungary), in 1973 and the Symposium 'Flachseeforschung' in Steinhude (Fed. Rep. of Germany), in 1974 stressed the need for further communication amongst limnologists working in this field. Moreover several international projects, like the OECD-Eutrophication-Program and the MaB-Project, have included certain aspects of shallow lake limnology. It is hoped by the editors that the proceedings presented here will stimulate further research and a greater exchange of information in this field.

Book Summary:

They were born to survive the end of the world. The Hunger Games meets The Princess Trials in this series-starter boxset. Three books. Three romances. Three unforgettable heroines. A girl who clings to hope at the end of the world. She didn't know the safety she lived in was a lie. The monsters are the only ones she can trust. An outsider whose only wish is to protect her sister. Trapped in a dying world, she faces a terrible choice―accept the fate she was born to, or join the enemy she's sworn to destroy. An orphan who finds adventures that reach new realms. She knew she was a witch. No one warned her that magic would force her into battle. If you need romance, crave adventure, and aren't afraid to dive into a dystopian world, In Fire Born is the three-book, series-starter collection for you. In Fire Born includes Girl of Glass, Heart of Smoke, and The Girl Without Magic. Readers rave about the three novels included in the In Fire Born boxset. "I really enjoyed this novel! It's on the same level as The Hunger Games." ― BookBub Review of Girl of Glass "A great dystopian read for fans of The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, and the Divergent series." ― BookBub Review of Heart of Smoke "This reminded me of Doctor Who, except from the standpoint of the Doctor's assistant." ― Goodreads Review of The Girl Without Magic Girl of Glass (Girl of Glass, Book One) The world is ending, but Nola has been chosen to survive. Nola has spent her life in the domes, training to protect her little piece of the world within the glass. The mission of the domes is to preserve the human race, not to help the sick and starving. When the fate of an outsider child falls into her hands, Nola dares to venture beyond the security of her home, diving into a world of darkness and vampires. Life within the glass didn't prepare her for the realities of suffering or the depth of forbidden love. Heart of Smoke (Heart of Smoke, Book One) Do the work, steal the goods, keep her sister alive―a simple plan Lanni has been clinging to. With the city burning around her and vampires hiding in the shadows, making it until morning is the best she can hope for. The Girl Without Magic (The Chronicles of Maggie Trent, Book One) Death would have been easier, but the Siren wasn't through with her. The Siren dragged Maggie Trent out of a battle and into her Realm, a land where secrets hide in the shadows and pleasure comes at a price Maggie is unwilling to pay. With the promise of adventure in new worlds, Maggie leaps into a journey of blood and romance.

Book Summary:

"Four-Day Planet" is set on a planet called Fenris, where extremes in climate have resulted in an extremely small population with very few off-world contacts. The protagonist is a 17-year-old reporter who fights to overturn the corrupt 'government' and coercive mercantilist monopoly on 'tallow-wax', the sole export from Fenris. "Lone Star Planet" is set on New Texas, where everything from cows to nuts is prefixed. Silk, the unwilling, banished replacement for the Solar League's former ambassador, must solve the murder and stave off an anticipated invasion by the Srauff, a canine alien race, while preventing his own assassination on a planet where the killing of politicians is acceptable, if they "had it coming."
